Haunted Machines

We are used to understanding technologies linked to science, rationalism and progress. In the 19th century, spiritism and the telegraph were welcomed with equal enthusiasm by a surprised society. Haunted Machines analyses the narratives constructed around technologies and charts a secret history of innovation that presents technology as a source of magic and sometimes of superstition.

Haunted Machines is the joint project of the artist and designer Tobias Revell and of Natalie Kane, the curator of digital design at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Together, they research the narratives and stories that connect technology with the magic of mythologies and the supernatural.
